Manatū Taonga – the Ministry for Culture and Heritage works to enrich the lives of all New Zealanders by supporting our dynamic culture and preserving our heritage.
We support many of New Zealand’s arts, media, heritage and sports organizations and advise government on cultural matters. We fund 19 organisations across the cultural spectrum, from NZ On Air to the Antarctic Heritage Trust. The organisations we fund deliver a wide range of cultural experiences for all to enjoy.
Our work is as diverse as the sector we support. We research New Zealand and provide rich online resources like Te Ara — the Encyclopedia of New Zealand www.teara.govt.nz . We produce books, advise government and look after New Zealand's national treasures. We tend to work behind the scenes, helping the people and organisations that contribute to making our culture thrive.
