Images of Taonga Māori

Images of taonga are of significant cultural importance to iwi Māori. Te Papa requests that these images and associated information be used for research, personal use and study and educational use only.

Photographers in the museum

Visitors may photograph, film, or video people, general scenes within the Museum, and the building itself for private study and research only.  Images taken in this way may not be sold commercially or displayed publicly (for example, via the Internet). Please refrain from directly photographing, filming or videoing any work or object on display in the Museum.

Photography, filming and videoing may be prohibited in some exhibitions. Where this is the case, this limitation will be clearly communicated through signage at the entry to the exhibition.

Reproduction requests

If you want images from Collections Online or the Picture Library, contact Te Papa's Picture Library: Please be aware that some of these images may not be available for reproduction.

Request for information

Te Papa seeks to expand our knowledge of the taonga (treasures) held in our collections and displayed on this site. You are invited to help achieve this goal by contacting us to discuss further information or comments you may have relating to the taonga you see here.
