Te Papa is well set up for individuals and groups with disabilities and special needs. Most of our spaces are accessible to people with mobility impairments, including all our exhibitions, some special attractions, and most toilets.
Talk to your Functions Coordinator about accommodating the special needs of any of your guests. You should also know that we have procedures to help visitors in wheelchairs, and those with other special needs, if there is an evacuation.
Parking
We have five car parks for people with disabilities: two on the left as you enter the car park, and three on the left as you continue into the covered area. Access to the building is at ground level through the main entrance.

Wheelchairs
We have manual wheelchairs and a scooter for people with impaired mobility. Talk to your Function Coordinator to book these items.
Guided tours
We can adapt our guided tours for people with disabilities, and we have a special tour for people with visual impairments.
Audio guides
Our audio guides provide information about selected exhibitions and objects in English, Māori, and German. You’ll also find that many exhibits use sound to convey information.
Captions and hearing-aid loops
Most videos at Te Papa have captions. Hearing-aid loops are also available in a number of places, indicated by a hearing-aid symbol.
