Te Papa is a large and busy place. As you’d expect, we have the equipment and facilities to pack in and out all sorts of items, including vehicles and machinery. The information below will help you move exhibits and goods in and out of Te Papa easily and safely.
Deliveries
Packing in
Arrange for all deliveries to be made via our dockway on Barnett Street. For safety reasons, no equipment or deliveries may be brought through the main doors.
Goods can be delivered between 8.30am and 4pm Monday to Friday. Please address deliveries to Te Papa Dockway, Barnett Street, Wellington, marked to the attention of your Functions Coordinator. Please also include the:
- name and date of the conference/event
- exhibitor name and stand number (if applicable)
- box number and number of boxes (eg 1 of 3).
Your or your exhibitors are welcome to drop off items at the dockway, but please don’t leave vehicles unattended. Please don’t use the carparks in the dockway area.
Moving equipment from the dockway to the venue is your responsibility. A Te Papa staff member will escort you.
Please do not deliver goods more than 24 hours before your event.
Packing out
Removing all equipment and boxes from the venue at the end of the event is your responsibility. Please clearly label any goods to be couriered and leave them at the dockway. You will need to arrange the courier. We have a trade exhibitors’ courier form that you may find useful for this purpose.
We have limited storage space, so we reserve the right to charge storage fees for goods not removed within 24 hours of an event. The charges are:
- $25 + GST per day for up to and including 1 cubic metre
- $45 + GST per day for over 1 cubic metre.
Access and access times
Please arrange and confirm access times with your Function Coordinator. Special access arrangements may be available outside these times.
Trolleys
We have trolleys in a range of sizes. Please make sure you use a trolley with the appropriate weight rating. Ask the Dockway Manager if you’re unsure which trolley you should use. Trolleys are heavily in demand throughout the organisation, so please unload your trolley as soon as you can and return it to the dockway.
Goods lift
Only trained personnel may operate the goods lift. We ask that all equipment be loaded and unloaded directly outside the lift so that it can be used by others.
Forklifts
Please let your Function Coordinator know at least 10 days before your event if you need a forklift. Our forklift is rated at a load capacity of 1,200 kilograms. We can supply a driver, although charges may apply outside normal dockway hours.
If you are providing your own driver, they will need to have an F-class licence and be Department of Labour certified. You will need to provide their documentation at least 10 days before the event and again on the day(s) of use.
Storage
We have limited storage facilities. Please talk to your Function Coordinator well in advance if you have any large crates or transport cases that need to be housed during your event.
