PompeiiA Day in Pompeii

Experience a truly spectacular event in world history when the Roman city of Pompeii was frozen in time by the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 A.D.

Pompeii's priceless archaeological treasures rarely leave Italy, so this exhibition provides a unique opportunity to unearth the story of daily life in Pompeii.  See delicate garden frescos, marble and bronze sculptures, jewellery, gold coins, and hundreds of ancient artefacts.
Experience the dramatic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in an immersive 3D theatre.  

Suitable for: Year 0-11
Curriculum area: Social Sciences, Level 4
Duration: 60 minutes

Can't make it to the Teacher Preview?  Free entry will be given to teachers, only on these days:
Thursday 14 January
Saturday 6 February      

Terms and conditions: To gain free entry, you must present your teacher registration card. One free visit per teacher. Free entry will not be given outside of these days, unless you are attending the Teacher Preview.

Experience a multi-sensory and personal encounter with pounamu, and discover what makes pounamu so special to Aotearoa New Zealand. 
See over 200 taonga from Te Papa's pounamu collections, including ceremonial taonga, tools, weapons, and jewellery.
Hear music created by pounamu taonga pūoro (musical instruments) and see pounamu taonga being made with the use of customary tools.
