Introducing Julia Gresson

Julia is an objects conservator with extensive experience in the care and treatment of a wide range of collection materials. After graduating from the University of Canberra with a Bachelor of Applied Science in the Conservation of Cultural Material, majoring in objects and textiles, she worked briefly at the Queensland Art Gallery before returning to New Zealand. Julia then spent twenty years at Auckland Museum Tamaki Paenga Hira, where she gained valuable experience in all aspects of collections care and participated in two major building redevelopment projects. She also conducted Preventive Conservation training workshops for a wide range of participants including regional and Pacific Islands museum staff, special interest groups, school and university students, and members of the public.

In her new role as Museum Development Officer, North Island, Julia is looking forward to meeting and assisting museum staff with building, environmental and collections issues, as well as finding out more about the plethora of activities that form part of their service. She is also excited at the prospect of seeing many of the museum collections first hand that she has previously only heard about or viewed online. Her particular collection interests are Maori and Pacific weaving, folk art, natural history specimens and shoes.
