Our teams of experts answer a wide variety of enquiries on a regular basis. These include members of the public, special interest groups, and a wide range of organisations and museums both nationally and internationally.

  • Our Arts team can answer a range of enquiries about art works and artists, including:
    -  Information on the holdings of art works in Te Papa’s collection
    -  Requests by researchers to view items not on display
    -  Information on New Zealand artists
    -  Offers to gift or sell art works to Te Papa
    -  Requests to identify and date works

  • Our history team answers enquiries which include:
    -  Requests for information about particular historical objects or events
    -  Requests for information about objects in Te Papa’s collection
    -  Enquiries about items held by individuals and in private collections in the community

  • The Pacific team can assit with enquiries about:
    -  Background information on specific Pacific peoples and their material culture
    -  Identification of objects

  • Our plants and animals team can help you with:
    -  General questions concerning plants and animals of New Zealand
    -  If you have specimens you would like identified
    -  If you want to visit our collections for research

Valuations and Estimates

Please note: we are unable to provide valuations, estimates of value, or authentications. This would compromise our independent status as a public museum.
