Hours and admission costs

Open every day of the year, including public holidays.
Hours: 10am−6pm, and 10am−9pm on Thursdays.
Free entry, though charges apply to some short-term exhibitions and activities.

Te Papa Store – 9am–6pm, and 9am–9pm on Thursdays
Te Papa Kids' Store – 10am–6pm, and 10am–9pm on Thursdays
Te Papa Cafe – 9am–5pm
Level 4 Espresso – 10am–6pm, and 10am–9pm on Thursdays
Te Aka Matua Library – by appointment only, 1pm–5pm Wednesday to Sunday, closed public holidays

  • Getting here

    Te haere mai ki konei
    Te Papa is situated in Cable Street on Wellington's waterfront. Locate us on the map, and find out about transport by foot, bus, car, campervan, or taxi – including from Wellington’s airport and railway station.

  • Parking

    Ngā tūranga waka
    Open and covered parking space is available at Te Papa 7 days a week. Charges apply 24 hours a day, but vary according to the time of the day. Payment is made at automated Pay Stations.

  • First-time visitors

    Ngā manuhiri hou
    First-time visitors, don’t miss our exhibition highlights – from the story of Māori in New Zealand to the interactive exhibition OurSpace.

  • Guided tours

    Ngā haere arahina
    Te Papa offers a range of tours, including daily tours and private group tours. We also provide a visitor booklet and an audio guide.

  • Services and facilities

    Hei āwhina hei whakarato
    With helpful Hosts, cafes and shops, a library, and an onsite multimedia database, Te Papa looks after you well. We provide access and help for people with disabilities, plus rooms for parents with young children.
