When you park at Te Papa, you're helping to fund the Museum’s programme of research, conservation, exhibitions, and education. Our self-service car park operates 24/7 and includes a fully monitored, secure, covered parking area. Simply pay at the Automatic Pay Station when you leave, any time of day or night.

How to pay
Take your ticket with you after you park. You can pay in various ways.
Pay at an Automatic Pay Station before returning to your car
- By Eftpos
- By credit card (Amex, MasterCard, or Visa)
- By cash (change is provided)
There is an automatic teller machine (ATM) in the main entrance of the Museum, available during opening hours.
Pay at the exit
Pay by credit card only (Amex, MasterCard, or Visa).
Fast Pay – quick and hassle free
Instead of taking a ticket, simply insert your credit card or debit card at the car park entrance column when you arrive.
Insert the same card at the exit. You don’t need to go to an Automatic Pay Station. A receipt will print automatically.
Parking for visitors with disabilities
We offer five disability car parks:
- two on the left as you enter the car park
- three on the left as you continue into the covered area.
Access to the Museum is at ground level through the main entrance.

Campervans
Please park campervans in the outside car park only. The maximum vehicle length is 6.5 metres. If your vehicle is longer, contact the Car Park Manager before parking. Simply pay at the Automatic Pay Station when you leave, any time of day or night.
Tour and school buses
Buses can use the drop-off and pick-up area at the Cable Street entrance. Tour buses and school buses can park in the bus lane for free while their groups are visiting Te Papa.
Buses must have prior approval to park overnight.

Parking for function attendees
If you are attending a function or conference at Te Papa, you may receive a discounted parking rate by prior arrangement. Please ask your event organiser or manager to enquire with their Te Papa Function Coordinator at least 1 week before the function.
