How to pay

Take your ticket with you after you park. Pay at an Automatic Pay Station before returning to your car. You can pay by:

  • eftpos,
  • credit card (Amex, MasterCard, or Visa), or
  • cash (change is provided).

If you would like to get cash out, there is an automatic teller machine (ATM) in the main entrance of the Museum, available during opening hours.

Fast Pay – quick and hassle free

Instead of taking a ticket upon entering the car park, simply insert your credit card at the car park entrance column when you arrive.

Insert the same card at the exit. You don’t need to go to an Automatic Pay Station. A receipt will print automatically.

Parking for visitors with disabilities

We offer five disability car parks:

  • two on the left as you enter the car park, and
  • three on the left as you continue into the covered area.

Parking can not be reserved in advance.

Access to the Museum is at ground level through the main entrance.

More about visiting Te Papa for people with disabilities

If the length of your campervan is 6.5 metres or less you will be able to fit into one of our standard car park spaces - please note that we do not have a designated parking area for campervans. Please park campervans in the outside car park only. Standard parking fees apply.

Parking cannot be reserved in advance.

If you have any questions about parking your campervan, please contact us prior to your visit.

Please note: If your campervan is longer than 6.5 metres, there are two motorhome parks in central Wellington - one on Cuba Street, the other on the waterfront. Both are within walking distance of the museum.

Tour and school buses

Buses can use the drop-off and pick-up area at the Cable Street entrance. Tour buses and school buses can park in the bus lane for free while their groups are visiting Te Papa.

Our bus lane takes 6 buses in total. Please note spaces cannot be reserved and buses cannot park overnight in the bus lane.

Schools, contact the Te Papa Education Team to book your visit.
