Delectable Collectables: Collecting buses - all aboard!
Peter Rendall, Wellington
When I was a child, we didn’t have a car. We had to catch the bus everywhere. Each town we visited had different looking buses. They always made me feel we were far from home.
In books, buses overseas seemed really interesting. London had double-deckers and diesels! When I grew up, I got my bus driver’s licence in a London double-decker.
I can’t remember what my first model bus was, but I have more than 300 now – from all around the world. Some of them remind me of places I’ve visited. Others are examples that I used to drive!
A good thing about collecting model buses is that they’re often fairly cheap, especially the smaller ones. But New Zealand buses, and some of the others in my collection, have become rare. Other collectors really want them!
