Christian fundamentalists reject evolution, and militant evolutionists reject religion. Catholic priest Teilhard de Chardin embraced both. How did he do it? What is the scope of evolution? What is the essence of religion? Has religion promoted the evolution of human culture, or is it a superstitious obstacle holding evolution back?

Lloyd Geering holds honours degrees in Mathematics and Old Testament Studies.  He held Chairs of Old Testament Studies at theological colleges in Brisbane and Dunedin before being appointed as the foundation Professor of Religious Studies at Victoria University of Wellington. Since retiring in 1984, he’s continued to lecture widely throughout New Zealand and overseas.
