Make your own mahiole (helmet) and pretend you’re an Hawaiian high chief.
When Captain Cook first set foot in Hawaii, the island’s high chief viewed him as the god Lono. Because of this, the chief gave Cook important items – including the chief’s own ornate red and yellow feather cloak and matching helmet. These objects have found their way into Te Papa’s collection. Amazing! Look out for them next time you’re here!
