Armband

Gold with glass paste eyes
River Sarno, Muregine

This gold armband inscribed DOMINUS ANCILLAE SUAE (From the master to his slave) was found on a female slave. The inscription and the gift’s value suggest an intimate relationship between a Roman master and his slave girl. Sex between a master and slave was not considered a scandal, and was a common domestic occurrence.
