Premier Richard John Seddon (1845–1906), a passionate imperialist, led New Zealand at the turn of the 20th century.
Seddon's popularity and stature – both physical and political – earned him the nickname 'King Dick'. He remains one of the country's best-remembered leaders, renowned for his populist policies as much as his imperialism.
