In the 1980s and 90s, Tā Hekenukumai Ngāiwi Busby (Hek Busby) and Mau Piailug of Satawal, Micronesia, reignited the practice of navigation and voyaging on waka hourua, beginning with the building and voyage of Te Aurere.
