As part of Fiji Language Week 2024, Pacific Cultures Tautai intern Melanie Ioane-Warren, and Emele Ugavule, a Tokelauan/Fijian storyteller, 2024 Emerging Pasifika Writer in Residence at VUW’s International Institute of Modern Letters and Senior Tutor at Toi Whakaari, and Curator Pacific Cultures Emelihter Kihleng, talk to 531 PI about some of the Fijian Iyau at Te Papa.

Here, Emele talks about an Ibe va kula (mat), and then she and her husband Bose show some noke and how they are used. Melanie discusses a whale-shaped iSuvisuvi.
