Share The Love – Te Papa’s annual appeal
On Valentine’s Day 1998, Te Papa opened its doors to the public for the very first time. This Valentine’s Day on 14 February, share your love for Te Papa by donating to our annual appeal. We have a target of $30,000 – we can reach it with your help.
Will you chip in to help us get there?
Te Papa belongs to all New Zealanders. The museum is home to more than 2 million objects spanning art, artefact, cultural, natural history and ephemera. Free to all New Zealanders and open 364 days a year, Te Papa offers something for everyone.
Te Papa receives government funding for 60% of its operational costs, with a mandate to raise the remaining 40% (approximately $30 million every year) through commercial avenues, partnerships, trusts, foundations – and donors like you.
Every dollar you give to this campaign will make a difference.
Free access to culture, history, and learning is more vital than ever and Te Papa is determined to continue our work enriching lives, inspiring minds, and opening doors.
Please make a gift today. Aroha atu, aroha mai – Share the love.

Leslie and Maud: Capturing a love story
A prolific diarist, photographer, farmer, ethnologist, and geologist, Leslie Adkin was also a romantic. Frequently a subject in Adkin’s photographs – either as the central focus or to show scale – his photography often tells the story of his great love of Maud Herd – from their courtship in 1910 to old age.
