Tiki Taane: Artist, Producer, Engineer, Director, Experimentalist

One of the most well-known and diverse artists and producers in Aotearoa (New Zealand), Tiki Taane (Ngāti Maniapoto / MacDuff) is considered to be an influential element in the pioneering of Aotearoa's bass culture, as well as the country's most prolific genre-bending experimentalist.

Renowned as much for his powerful, live performances as he is for the anthems he writes and produces, Tiki’s extraordinary ability to rock the mic as a hype MC, or as a one-man band live looper, or through the collaborations he does with bands and orchestras, is something to be experienced firsthand.

Te Rawhitiroa Bosch is a creative, photographer, and storyteller of Ngāpuhi and Ngāti Kahu descent. His work is grounded in te ao Māori and he is dedicated to capturing connection – “People to People, People to Place"

As the curator of He Kaupapa Waka | A Fleet of Waka, Te Rawhitiroa documents the living traditions of waka through a series of powerful photographic works. His lens honours the intergenerational knowledge, ceremonies, and spirit carried within these kaupapa, inviting audiences to experience them through a deeply Māori perspective.

Te Rawhitiroa collaborated with Master Waka Carvers Hēmi Eruera, Billy Harrison, Master Carvers and Weavers Joel and Cori Marsters to create a multi-sensory exhibition combining photographic storytelling with carved scale model waka tauā (war canoes) and hoe (paddles) and an immersive soundscape co curated and produced with legendary sonic artist Tiki Taane. Together they have created an experience that weaves taonga pūoro, karakia, waiata with the sounds of forest and sea — a journey where ancestral origins and contemporary expression converge. This is what Te Rawhitiroa and Tiki will be diving into on the night.

AJA’s artistry transcends borders; her performance at the He Māori ahau event in Wellington, and her recent collaboration with the National Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Music Office in Brisbane for EMEBA NAW WAIATA, highlight her international reach and commitment to maintaining cultural integrity alongside commercial success.
